Yesterday, I went back to school … in front of the class this time 👨🎓!
I had the privilege of giving a guest lecture at the Artevelde University of Applied Sciences (Arteveldehogeschool), taking an eclectic and international group of students and faculty on a journey through the wondrous world of “change”. A topic near and dear to my heart 🤩.
▶️ We dove into why change is such a big deal for organizations in today’s fast-paced world, and the fact that the majority of transformations today still fail due to lack of proper change management (some studies say a whopping 70%).
▶️ Then I shared my “Lasting Change Model”: a way to understand the mechanics of changing mindset and behavior, to know what “buttons” to push, and the levers you can use to do so.
▶️ We ended by talking about the challenge of managing change in an international context, navigating the intricacies of different cultures in how they deal with change.
What a joy it was!
So great to interact with these students, young aspiring professionals, and to see their interest and curiosity in this topic, with some tough and insightful questions along the way. And to talk to faculty that have also embraced it and are investing in it in their curriculum. 💪
There’s hope still! 😎
Because change isn’t just a buzzword. It’s the name of the game for any organization or team. And I believe that being able to navigate and support your team through change is one of the most essential skills for any leader, whether your a team leader, manager, CEO, founder of a start-up, product manager, project manager, or the like.
A huge thank you to Arteveldehogeschool for hosting me, and to all the students and faculty members who participated in the session!
Let’s keep embracing change and making waves together. 🌊
